While providing computer services in the Denver-metro area we have seen a lot of misconfigured networks. One of the biggest problems today relates to VOIP (voice over IP) implementation. Before implementing any VOIP solution one must have a solid network and the proper hardware. Voice packets are very sensitive and have different needs then a typical data packet. NOYNIM primarily sees two types of network designs when it comes to VOIP:

1. VOIP and Data packets are completely segregated using different physical hardware.

2. VOIP and Data packets use the same network hardware infrastructure

The downside of the first design method is that a company is building out two networks when VOIP and data should converge on the same network hardware. There is no reason why someone should run a CAT5e/6/7 cable to a phone and a separate one to a computer. In addition, this setup requires two of everything (two cables, two switches, two firewalls, etc). While in a very small business (5 users) you may justify it, imagine this being recommended to a 5,000 user environment. By referencing the above document you can clearly see the hardware duplications and extra expenditure.

The second approach is ideal, but is usually never setup and configured properly. In most cases design 2 is architected in a way where the voice and data traffic are never segregated and voice traffic is never prioritized.

In order to setup everything properly you need to hire the best Denver computer services organization, which is NOYNIM. All of the services that we provide are based on our years of experience working in fortune 50 companies. Not only do we possess the most talented individuals in Denver we also have the most advanced certifications. NOYNIM is the only Denver computer services company that has a CCIE on staff. There is no company supporting small-mid sized businesses that has a CCIE on their staff. Contact NOYNIM today at 720.524.8616 to receive your free three hour network assessment.

NOYNIM is proud to announce that we have hired a CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert). Yet again NOYNIM is stepping up and providing world class/large enterprise support to small and midsized businesses. Being the best technical resource in the Denver metro area we bring the absolutely best talent to support all your IT needs.

Denver CCIEs are very hard to come by, but possess expert knowledge of Cisco Systems networking. Hands down the CCIE is the hardest IT certificate in the industry. On top of a rigorous test one has to fly out to a select number of locations throughout the world to pass a lab test. Candidates must take the CCIE lab within 18 months of passing the written test.

Most small-mid sized businesses don’t know what Denver CCIE means, but rest assured this is the highest certification in the industry.

Cisco introduced the CCIE certification in 1993 to assist the industry in distinguishing the top echelon of internetworking experts worldwide. Today , CCIE certification holders represent less than 3% of all certified Cisco professionals and less than 1% of the networking professionals worldwide.

Did you know that if you add a user into the local DB on an asa and have “aaa authentication ssh console LOCAL” command your users will have full access into the asa? Not only will they have VPN access they also have full config t access into the box. You maybe saying, they don’t because they don’t have the enable password. That’s not true because if you issue the “login” command and authenticate again you have full access. To fix this security issue you will need to make sure you are on version 8 of the asa code.

Issue this command

aaa authorization exec authentication-server

then go into the user (for the test I will use a user named test) attributes

username test attributes

then issue

service-type remote-access

now the user only has vpn access and no access into the ASA. This means he can no longer ssh into the box.

Choosing the right IT outsourcing provider in the Denver-metro area is becoming more difficult. Decision makers today are younger and understand IT and its importance at a growing rate. The struggle comes into play when determining if an IT vendor is doing a good job. Many times we see that IT vendors have enough knowledge to fool customers but not their peers. While many tout IT certifications one should take them with a grain of salt. Many of the certifications they have are the most basic; for instance a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) is the most basic certification. Possessing an MCP allows companies to say they are Microsoft certified, but doesn’t show any real knowledge. In addition there are many sites that provide exact questions and answers to MANY IT certifications.

Below are some questions that should be asked of a qualified IT vendor:

Provide multiple references of known businesses

Ask what kind of documentation is provided to me (the client)

A qualified IT vendor should create a disaster recovery document/files that details everything (passwords, configurations, backup schedules, software configurations, etc) and provide it to you

Determine how committed the IT vendor is to automation and how they plan on automating the environment

The nature of IT is to automate as much as possible and this should be done in order to reduce overall cost to the business. This also includes automating IT tasks such as: patching, vulnerability assessment, backup monitoring, etc

Ask what kind of contractual agreements are required for Denver computer services

A Good IT vendor will let their work speak for themselves. They will not require you to sign a yearly contractor requiring you to spend x amount of money every month.

There are some caveats if the client will need certain Service Level Agreements (SLA)

Most Denver small businesses that require IT support in the Denver Metro area will not require strict SLAs.

You can always call NOYNIM for IT services and we will do whatever it takes to get and maintain your business. We pride ourselves in the IT services that we provide to our Denver-metro area customers. Our skills and experience are the best in the state and speak for themselves. We have plenty of references and can provide multiple documents and processes detailing our superior service and knowledge. Denver computer outsourcing is a growing field that has few qualified vendors.

Below are instructions on how to have SSH access into a cisco asa

when you first login to a Cisco ASA you will need to create remote access into the box. to do this we will do the following

login to config t mode and set a regular password and enable password

to do this you will need to use two commands (assuming that secret is the actual password):

password secret

enable password secret

crypto key generate rsa modulus 2048

ssh 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 outside
ssh 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 inside

the above command allows all IPs to ssh inside and outside. Adjust this accordingly

by doing this method you will only be able to ssh with a user named pix

to user usernames to log into the ASA do the following

username test password secret

aaa authentication ssh console LOCAL

First make sure you have PowerShell installed. In this example I used PowerShell 1.0

After you have successfully installed powershell execute the following in powershell

Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned

The above command will allow you to install any script that you create. It will also allow you to install downloaded scripts from the Internet only if they have been signed by a trusted publisher.

Now you will need to download VMWare vSphere PowerCLI, current version is VMWare vSphere PowerCLI 4.0 Update 1.

Once you have everything installed open up the vSpherePowerCLI.

Issue the “Connect-VIServer” command –without the quotes

Enter the IP address of the VMWare server, one you are done hit enter twice. Most likely you will get an SSL certificate error unless you have already trusted the SSL certificate of your VMWare server. A windows login prompt will come up where you will have to login.

Once you are logged in it will look like the screen below

Now issue the following command

“(Get-VMHost | Get-View).Summary.Hardware.OtherIdentifyingInfo[1].IdentifierValue” –without the quotes

This will display the service tag of the machine. Currently this has only been tested on Dell machines, but should work the same for HP.

When searching sharepoint 2010 you may receive the following error:

The Web application at http:/// could not be found. Verify that you have typed the URL correctly. If the URL should be serving existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request URL mapping to the intended application.

This often happens because the proper alternate access mappings is not configured. For instance if you are webbing into the server via IP you need to make sure you have an intranet or internet setting in the alternate access mappings. If you have a public DNS then you will need to configure an internal URL with the internet zone.

This is done by going to central administration

clicking application management

click configure alternate access mappings
